Although this is a small book, it is powerful in that Dr. Provitera has capsulized for the reader important information available in the field of self-motivation. He provides 28 pages of Endnotes of other authors who have analyzed and summarized systems for personal success. This book would particularly benefit young adults, students of institutions of higher learning or those who have been in the work force for several years and desire to improve their occupational or vocational status. In addition, Dr. Provitera provides a workbook at no extra charge to go with his manual, which he believes will help the reader understand his concepts more fully. He also invites readers to contact him regarding three questions he poses at the end of Chapter Eight. Perusing his website [....] provides more fully his background and most of the media tools available for self-promotion.

This reviewer heard CEOs speak the other day on Book Events and with such a lack of jobs available for new and even old employees, the main asset they look for in new employees, and especially degreed ones, is the ability to jump beyond the job requirements and improve it based on their own initiative. In other words, how can an employee make the job more efficient in the same amount of hours for the same cost? This manual helps an employee understand how to meet such standards. I recommend this book especially for individuals who are seeking new insights in the areas that are covered.

Good Book for Varied Audiences, January 17, 2012

This review is from: Mastering Self-Motivation: Preparing Yourself for Personal Excellence (Paperback)

Mastering Self-Motivation, by Dr. Michael Provitera, is a well-written book, with an accompanying workbook, that allows individuals to work, on their own, on realizing WHAT they want to do, and how to go about doing it! He references major motivation theories, and then elaborates on ways the individual can achieve excellence in his/her own way.

This book is excellent for various audiences. Individuals who want to push themselves to “be the best they can be” will benefit, as well as students taking a course in Motivation and Achievement. This book could also be used for corporate training, especially in today’s working environment.

    Professionally Written?, January 15, 2012

Two pages into this book, I could see major agreement errors with regard to grammar. This is a graduate level, educated person writing this book, and these are mistakes that are not acceptable. I bought this book with two goals in mind, but I cannot put faith in, or identify with a professional who does not write like a professional. The wording is so basic and elementary, at best. It is one thing to write so that any audience can grasp the concepts, but it is another thing to convince the audience of your knowledge base and background. This is not a book that screams out to me, “I was written by a graduate level therapist.” I am disappointed, to say the least. Maybe other people will read it and not notice these issues, but as a graduate educated professional, myself, and a former college professor, it really irks me that someone with that background would write this way. Did she hire an editor???? Who published? Just questions I have to ask. That’s my two cents. Sorry. Next book, hire an editor.
